During the pickling of steel, loose iron salts remain adhered to the surface. If these salts are not removed from the surface before dipping in the galvanizing bath, they get transferred to the Zinc bath and combine with molten Zinc to form dross. Thus removing these salts before taking the articles into the galvanizing bath is an essential step to reduce the dross formation.
The problem of iron carryover / free iron salts and acidity from pickling stage can be reduced by efficient rinsing operations. Hot rinsing is always superior to room temperature rinsing of pickled product. Inadequate rinsing and poor maintenance of rinse tanks between surface preparation stages are likely to result in bare spots, higher disposal costs, increased dross formation and zinc consumption, clogging of filters, and dioxin formation due to the influx of contaminated particles like free iron salts with other complex salts came from cleaning of greases into subsequent process tanks. Carryover of these contaminants are likely to float on the surface of further fluxing bath and interfere with the performance of these solutions.
There is not a recommended time for change-out of rinsing tank water because this interval depends on the quantity of steel being cleaned and the amount of contaminants and oxides on the steel surfaces.
To overcome the above problems, AMBICA Chemical has developed an effective Active Rinsing Chemical as HODGA ACTIVE which is formulated with certain sequestering agents and additives which enhance the rinsing tank water life thereby control of rinsing bath efficiently reduce the carryover of iron salt and pH. It provides protection of long-lasting storage of water and avoids discard problem to save galvanizing operational cost and time.
